1962 Alcatraz escape of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers

On June 11, 1962, inmates Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin escaped from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary by enlarging ventilation openings and accessing a service corridor, leaving papier-mâché heads in their cells. They launched a makeshift inflatable raft and disappeared into San Francisco Bay; no bodies were recovered. The FBI conducted a large investigation and the official report concluded they likely drowned, but their ultimate fate was never conclusively determined. The question of whether they survived remains debated, with occasional claimed sightings and inconclusive evidence.
