General Post Office, Hobart

The General Post Office (GPO) in Hobart, Tasmania, is a historic landmark built between 1901 and 1905, serving as the headquarters of the Tasmanian Postal system. Designed in the Edwardian Baroque style by architect Alan Cameron Walker, it features the iconic Queen Victoria Clock Tower, which was funded by public subscription. The GPO has been listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List since 2004 and is located near Franklin Square, a significant public park. Notably, it was from this post office that Roald Amundsen sent a telegram announcing his successful expedition to the South Pole in 1912.
