United States Department of Agriculture Building

The United States Department of Agriculture Building, originally established in 1862, served as the headquarters for the USDA on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Designed by architects Adolf Cluss and Mr. Kammerhueber, construction began in 1867, and the building was completed by 1868. It featured a Victorian garden and arboretum, enhancing the landscape with over 3,000 trees. However, due to incompatibility with the McMillan Plan, the building was demolished in 1930. This site reflects a significant chapter in American agricultural history and urban development.
