French Cable Hut

The French Cable Hut, located in Cape Cod National Seashore near Nauset Beach Light in Eastham, Massachusetts, is a historic building constructed in 1891. It served as a crucial link in the transatlantic telegraph cable for the French Cable Company. After the cable's abandonment in 1932, the hut was adapted for residential use and later restored to its original appearance by the National Park Service. The small, charming structure, measuring about 10 by 15 feet, features wooden shingles and simple white trim. It was relocated from the eroding shoreline and is now set in a historically compatible location. The hut is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers a glimpse into the region's telecommunication history, making it an interesting stop for tourists and researchers alike.
