Decades-long vacancy and revival of the Book-Cadillac Hotel

The Book-Cadillac Hotel on Washington Boulevard closed in the 1980s and remained vacant for many years, removing a major hotel presence from downtown Detroit's skyline. In the 2000s the building underwent a large-scale renovation and was reopened as a modern hotel and mixed-use property, restoring its historic facade and interior function. The project returned a prominent early-20th-century skyscraper to active commercial and hospitality use after its prolonged period of disuse.
