Octagon Building (Santa Cruz, California)

The Octagon Building, a historic redbrick structure built in 1882, is located at 118 Cooper Street in Santa Cruz, California. Originally serving as the County Hall of Records, it remarkably survived a major fire in 1894 and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, while many nearby buildings did not. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, the building is currently managed by the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. Over the years, it has served various purposes, including a museum store and a coffeehouse, and as of late 2024, it hosts two food vendors, enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of the adjacent Abbot Square Marketplace.
