D.B. Cooper hijacking and Seattle rendezvous

On November 24, 1971 a man using the name D.B. Cooper hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 and extorted $200,000 and four parachutes. After the plane landed in Seattle he released the passengers in exchange for the money and then ordered the aircraft to take off; he parachuted from the rear stairway into the night between Seattle and Reno. The plane landed at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport to complete the ransom exchange, and the hijacker's ultimate fate remains officially unsolved; the case is the only unsolved skyjacking in U.S. commercial aviation history and remains an active FBI cold case.
