Home of the Friendless (Baltimore, Maryland)

The Home of the Friendless is a historic orphanage located in Baltimore, Maryland, notable for its striking Second Empire architectural style. Constructed in 1870, this five-story brick building served as a refuge for orphaned and abandoned children for sixty years, accommodating between 100 to 200 children annually. In 1922, the institution transitioned to the suburbs and is now known as the Woodbourne Center. Recognized for its historical significance, the Home of the Friendless was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers interested in social history and architecture.
