Riviera Hotel & Casino implosion on the Strip

The Riviera Hotel & Casino, which operated on the Las Vegas Strip from 1955 until its closure in May 2015, was demolished by implosion on May 16, 2016. The Riviera was one of the Strip's longest-running properties and its implosion was a widely reported moment in the Strip's redevelopment cycle. Artifacts and signage from the Riviera were salvaged by collectors and museums documenting mid-century Las Vegas resort history. The site where the Riviera stood has since been cleared for new development.
