Government House, Darwin

Government House is the official residence and office of the Administrator of the Northern Territory, located in Darwin, Australia. Constructed between 1870 and 1871, it is the oldest European building in the region and showcases mid-Victorian Gothic architecture adapted for the local climate. Set amidst 13,000 square meters of gardens, it has withstood numerous challenges, including cyclones and political unrest, notably the Darwin Rebellion in 1918. The building has housed various notable residents, including the first Government Resident, Bloomfield Douglas, and John Anderson Gilruth, during whose tenure significant historical events unfolded. Today, it stands as a testament to the rich history and resilience of the Northern Territory.
