Dumbarton Oaks estate and gardens

Dumbarton Oaks is an estate in Georgetown comprising a historic house museum and formal gardens extensively redesigned by landscape architect Beatrix Farrand. Robert Woods Bliss and Mildred Barnes Bliss assembled the collection and donated the estate to Harvard University in 1940, creating the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection. The site is documented for its influence on landscape design and for hosting scholarly programs in Byzantine, Pre‑Columbian, and garden studies.
