Phoenix Indian School - vacant campus after closure

The Phoenix Indian School operated as a federal boarding school from 1891 until it closed in 1990. After closure, many of its classroom and dormitory buildings were left vacant and deteriorated. Most former school structures were demolished during redevelopment of the site into Steele Indian School Park, which opened in 2001, though a few historic structures were retained or commemorated.
