Vietnam Veterans Memorial - The Wall

Designed by architect Maya Lin, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a black granite wall incised with the names of more than 58,000 U.S. service members who died in or remain missing from the Vietnam War. The memorial's minimalist V-shaped design and name-only inscription approach provoked significant public debate when it was unveiled. The wall was dedicated on November 13, 1982 and is sited on the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial.
