Square Peristyle

The Square Peristyle, located on the east side of the Ancient Agora of Athens, is a significant yet unfinished structure from around 300 BC, notable for being one of the largest peristyles in Classical Greece. Initially intended to serve as Athens' law courts, the building was abandoned before completion and later demolished in the early second century BC. Its impressive design featured a central courtyard surrounded by Doric columns, with dimensions of 58.56 meters per side. Although construction halted, remnants of the structure were uncovered during 1950s excavations, revealing its historical importance and architectural ambition.
