Survivor Tree (Callery pear) at the 9/11 Memorial

A Callery pear tree that was severely damaged at the World Trade Center site on September 11, 2001, was recovered from the rubble, rehabilitated in Paterson, New Jersey, and returned to be planted at the National September 11 Memorial. It was replanted at the Memorial plaza in 2010 and is maintained as a living symbol of resilience. Saplings from the Survivor Tree have been distributed to survivors, recovery workers, and communities as part of a stewardship program.
