Victoria Tower, Jersey

Victoria Tower is a historic Martello tower located on Le Mont Nicholas in Saint Martin, Jersey, completed in 1837 and named after Queen Victoria. It was built to protect the bay of Anne Port and Gorey Harbour from naval attacks. The tower features a unique circular design, standing 33 ft tall with a surrounding ditch, and includes a drawbridge. Inside, a staircase connects three floors, and it was originally armed with a 24-pounder gun. During World War II, the Germans repurposed the tower for military use, adding an anti-aircraft gun and establishing a strongpoint with a garrison of troops. Today, it is managed by the National Trust for Jersey, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
