Fairmount Water Works

Fairmount Water Works began operation in 1815 to supply Philadelphia with a municipal water source drawn from the Schuylkill River and was expanded throughout the 19th century. The surviving 19th-century pump houses and engineered structures along the river illustrate historic municipal water-pumping technology. The complex is interpreted as a public historic site with exhibits about the city's water infrastructure and sits adjacent to the Schuylkill River Trail.
