Belle Isle Aquarium

The Belle Isle Aquarium opened in 1904 and is one of the oldest public aquariums in the United States; it is located on Detroit's Belle Isle Park. The aquarium was closed by the city in 2005 and reopened in 2012 under nonprofit management, restoring many historic exhibits and continuing freshwater and local species displays. It operates as a public educational facility and a contributing attraction on Belle Isle.
