Sands Hotel and Casino (demolished)

The Sands Hotel and Casino operated on the Las Vegas Strip from 1952 until it closed and was demolished in 1996 to make way for The Venetian resort. During the 1950s and 1960s the Sands was a focal point of Las Vegas entertainment, hosting high-profile acts including members of the Rat Pack. Its implosion and replacement marked a wave of redevelopment that transformed the Strip's mid-20th-century resorts into megaresorts.
