Chicago Federal Building

The Chicago Federal Building, constructed between 1898 and 1905, was a significant Beaux-Arts skyscraper located in The Loop neighborhood of Chicago. Designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb, it served as a hub for federal courts and the main post office, reflecting the city's rapid growth following the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Standing at 297 feet, the building featured a striking dome and an octagonal rotunda, making it one of the tallest capitol-style structures in Chicago. Despite its grandeur, the building faced issues with construction quality, leading to its demolition in 1965. Today, the site is home to the Kluczynski Federal Building, but the Chicago Federal Building remains a notable part of the city's architectural history.
