Crescent Plantation

Crescent Plantation, located on Walnut Bayou in Tallulah, Louisiana, is a historic site originally built in 1832, with a significant section completed in 1855. It served as the home of Dr. D.M. and Elizabeth DeMoss Dancy until after the Civil War. In 1902, it was renamed The Ellis Place after Annie Clark Ellis, a Black woman who owned the plantation until 1936, when she and her children were violently forced off the land. The plantation features a striking two-story structure with eight Doric columns and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. Notably, during the Civil War, it was spared from destruction due to a family emergency. The plantation's rich history reflects the complexities of Louisiana's past, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history and culture.
