Block House (Delaware)

The Block House is a historic 17th-century building located in Claymont, Delaware, and is believed to be the only remaining structure from the original Swedish colonial settlement on Naamans Creek. Constructed in 1654 under Governor Johan Risingh, it served as a defensive fortification and has a rich history, including capture by the Dutch and later the British during the American Revolutionary War. The building features a single room with both lower and upper levels, showcasing a large fireplace and remnants of its past. Its exact date of construction is debated, with some suggesting it may have been built later, around the time of the nearby Robinson House, which dates to 1723.
