Clothespin (Claes Oldenburg)

The Clothespin is a 45-foot-tall Cor-Ten steel sculpture by Claes Oldenburg installed in 1976 at Centre Square on Market Street. It is a prominent example of Pop Art in public sculpture and is sited across from Philadelphia City Hall. The work replaced a fountain that formerly occupied the plaza and has been a frequent subject in discussions of modern public art in the city.
