Gidan Rumfa

Gidan Rumfa, also known as the Emir's house, is the historic palace of the Emir of Kano located in Kano, Nigeria. Originally built in the late 15th century, it has undergone numerous transformations up to the 20th century. Spanning 33 acres, the palace features a unique open plan design surrounded by 15-foot high walls, with various structures including gates, offices, a mosque, and royal courtrooms. The iconic Kofar Kudu gate, built in the 19th century, adds to its architectural significance. Today, Gidan Rumfa remains the residence of the Emir and his family, housing around 200 individuals in the private quarters and over a thousand within the palace grounds, which are adorned with beautiful gardens.
