Podvis School

The Podvis School, located in the village of Podvis, North Macedonia, is a significant cultural heritage site as the first primary school to teach in the contemporary Macedonian language. Established in 1943, shortly after the liberation of Kičevo, it marked a pivotal moment in the region's educational history. The school building, now in a state of disrepair, is situated high above the village, accessible only by a hiking track. Despite its historical importance and designation as a Monument of Culture, the site has suffered neglect, with collapsed structures and overgrowth obscuring its legacy. Visitors can explore this unique site, reflecting on its role in the preservation of Macedonian language and culture.
