Bayt al-Razzaz

Bayt al-Razzaz is a historic mansion located in the Darb al-Ahmar neighborhood of medieval Cairo, Egypt, built from the late 15th century to the late 18th century. This expansive 190-room urban palace showcases exquisite Mamluk architecture, featuring decorative mashrabiya windows and intricately painted wooden interiors. Originally constructed by Sultan Qaytbay, the mansion later expanded under the ownership of a wealthy rice merchant. After being abandoned in the 1960s, restoration efforts were undertaken from 1977 to 2007, revitalizing the eastern complex, while plans for the western section are still in development. Today, Bayt al-Razzaz serves as a hub for local artisans, making it a vibrant cultural site for tourists and researchers interested in Egypt's rich architectural heritage.
