The Royal Oak, Toodyay (1849–1851)

The Royal Oak was the first inn in Toodyay, Western Australia, established in 1849 by William Herbert. Located near a ford crossing and opposite Military Barracks, it catered to travelers between Perth and the upper Toodyay Valley, benefiting from events like the annual sheep washing. Despite its promising start, Herbert's health declined, leading to his brother taking over the license before the inn was sold in 1851. The building ultimately succumbed to floods in the late 1850s and early 1860s, marking the end of its brief history.
