O. Henry House (William Sidney Porter residence)

The O. Henry Museum occupies the restored 19th-century house where short story writer William Sidney Porter (pen name O. Henry) lived from 1893 to 1895 and wrote some of his early work. The small museum contains period furnishings and exhibits about O. Henry’s life and is operated by the O. Henry Foundation; it is less prominent than larger city museums and can be easy to overlook among downtown historic sites. Guided tours and limited hours make scheduled visits more reliable than casual drop-ins. The museum is a documented literary landmark in Austin.
