Astor Place Cube ("Alamo")

Tony Rosenthal's sculpture officially titled 'Alamo' and commonly called the Astor Place Cube was installed at Astor Place in 1967 as a public, site-specific work of abstract art. The black painted steel cube is mounted to pivot on its corner and is intended to be turned by visitors; it has become an iconic public-art landmark in the East Village. The piece is frequently photographed and noted for its interactive quality within the streetscape.
