Gas Works Park (former coal gasification plant)

Gas Works Park preserves the machinery and concrete structures of the Seattle Gas Light Company coal gasification plant that operated on the site from 1906 until 1956. The park, designed by landscape architect Richard Haag, opened in 1975 and intentionally retained the industrial remnants as a central feature of the landscape. The preserved equipment and tanks are among the most visible examples of early 20th-century municipal utility infrastructure repurposed for public use.
