Writers' Building

The Writers' Building, also known as Mahakaran, is a historic secretariat located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Originally constructed in 1777 by architect Thomas Lyon for the British East India Company, it served as the administrative hub for junior clerks and later became the headquarters for British governance in India. Spanning 150 meters along the northern edge of Lal Dighi, this heritage site has witnessed significant events in Bengal's political history, including the Indian independence movement.
