The New York Earth Room (Walter De Maria)

The New York Earth Room is a long-term interior art installation by Walter De Maria consisting of 280,000 pounds of earth installed in a SoHo loft in 1977. The work is administered and open to the public by the Dia Art Foundation and has been on continuous view in the same 141 Wooster Street location since its installation. It is one of the city's best-known examples of a site-specific, long-duration installation.
