The Alamo Cenotaph (The Spirit of Sacrifice)

The Alamo Cenotaph, officially titled The Spirit of Sacrifice, is a granite and limestone monument by sculptor Pompeo Coppini erected in 1939 on Alamo Plaza. It commemorates those who died in the 1836 Battle of the Alamo and features larger-than-life relief figures and inscriptions. The monument replaced earlier markers and has been the subject of public debate over Alamo preservation and historical interpretation.
