Corner House (Johannesburg)

Corner House, located in the heart of Johannesburg's central business district, is a historic building that once served as the headquarters for one of South Africa's largest mining conglomerates. Originally built in 1886, the structure has undergone significant transformations, including a major renovation in 2003 that turned it into a vibrant space featuring a hotel, offices, apartments, restaurants, a spa, and a gym. The building is notable for its architectural significance, having been the tallest commercial building in South Africa upon its completion in 1903. It is also a site of historical importance, associated with events like the Jameson Raid and the 1922 Rand Rebellion. Declared a national heritage monument in 1999, Corner House offers visitors a glimpse into Johannesburg's rich mining history and architectural evolution.
