Emancipation Park (Juneteenth ritual site)

Emancipation Park was purchased in 1872 by formerly enslaved Black residents of Houston as a place to celebrate Juneteenth and is recognized as the city's oldest park. The park has long been the focal point for Juneteenth commemorations and community rituals marking emancipation. It includes community facilities and has undergone preservation and renovation to maintain its role in annual public commemorations.
