The Sherman (Batesville, Indiana)

The Sherman, located in the historic downtown of Batesville, Indiana, is a Tudor-style restaurant and hotel with roots dating back to 1852. Originally known as The Brinkmann House, it was renamed in 1865 to honor General William T. Sherman and the 83rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry. This landmark is one of Indiana's oldest buildings and has undergone significant renovations, including expansions by Hillenbrand Industries in the 1920s. After closing in 2015, it was remodeled and reopened as The Sherman in 2017, featuring a Biergarten added in 2019. The establishment has been a beloved local venue and was once recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as part of the Historic Hotels of America.
