Transamerica Pyramid is often mistaken as the city's tallest building

The Transamerica Pyramid, completed in 1972 at 600 Montgomery Street, long served as San Francisco’s iconic skyline symbol and was commonly thought to be the city's tallest building. That perception changed when the Salesforce Tower at 415 Mission Street was completed in 2018; Salesforce Tower, at 1,070 feet, is taller than the Transamerica Pyramid (853 feet). The Transamerica Pyramid remains one of the most recognizable buildings in San Francisco despite no longer being the tallest. References to the Pyramid as the tallest are therefore outdated rather than accurate today.
