Sand Point (Magnuson Park) archaeological sites

Magnuson Park (Sand Point) on Lake Washington contains documented archaeological evidence of precontact Coast Salish occupation, including shell middens and habitation sites recorded along the shoreline. Archaeological surveys were conducted prior to and during the site's use as Naval Air Station Seattle and again during its conversion to a public park, documenting both Indigenous-era artifacts and historic-period features related to military operations. The site is included in regional cultural resource inventories and has been the subject of consultation with tribal governments during redevelopment projects. Archaeological findings inform park interpretation and management of cultural resources.
