Library of Congress special collections access controls

The Library of Congress at 101 Independence Avenue SE houses extensive rare books, manuscripts, maps, and audiovisual special collections. Access to many original and rare materials requires registration, a reader identification card, and use in supervised reading rooms; some collections are closed or may require additional permissions. The Library maintains restricted stacks and conservation areas that are off-limits to general visitors.
