El Centro Español of West Tampa

El Centro Español of West Tampa is a historic site located at 2306 North Howard Avenue in Tampa, Florida. Designed by Fred J. James, it was established as a community center for cigar workers in the early 20th century, offering amenities like a gym, casino, cafe, and health clinic. The site also featured the Royal Theater, which hosted live performances and later screened films. After years of neglect, the building was restored and temporarily housed the Tampa Museum of Art. In 2010, it became the permanent home for the Hillsborough Education Foundation, which supports local public education. The site is significant for its cultural heritage and ongoing community contributions.
