Ysguborwen

Ysguborwen is a historic 19th-century house located in Aberdare, Wales, built between 1852 and 1855 by Samuel Thomas, a key figure in the Welsh coal trade. The house is notable for being the birthplace of David Alfred Thomas, the first Viscount Rhondda, in 1856. Described as 'a tasteful and imposing building' by the South Wales Daily News, Ysguborwen reflects the architectural style of its time. Although it was once associated with the Thomas family, who have historical ties to the area since 1477, it is currently functioning as a nursing home, offering a glimpse into the region's rich industrial heritage.
