Buried 18th-century features at the Old Stone House

Archaeological work around the Old Stone House and adjacent Thompson's Alley has revealed buried cellars, wells, privies, and artifact deposits dating to the mid-18th century. The assemblage includes ceramics, glass, metal objects, and faunal remains that illuminate daily life in colonial Georgetown. The Old Stone House itself is documented as the oldest unchanged building standing in Washington, D.C., built in 1765.
