Spreckels Theatre Building and John D. Spreckels

The Spreckels Theatre Building at 121 Broadway was commissioned by businessman John D. Spreckels and opened in 1912 as a major downtown performance venue. The theatre hosted vaudeville, touring theatrical productions, and later film screenings, playing a role in San Diego's early 20th-century cultural life. The building is recognized as a historic landmark in the Gaslamp Quarter area.
