The Bourse building, completed in 1895 as Philadelphia's commodities exchange, is an example of late-19th-century commercial architecture that has been repurposed as a public market and event space. The iron-framed structure originally centralized wholesale trade and later housed offices and financial businesses before redevelopment into retail and dining uses in the 21st century. The building's adaptation reflects changing commercial practices while retaining its historic streetside presence on Independence Mall.
