American Federal Building

The American Federal Building, an iconic seven-story office structure in downtown Orlando, Florida, was completed in 1963 and designed by architect Robert Murphy. Known for its unique modern architecture featuring a cast concrete brise soleil, the building originally served as a banking hub and was later used by the City of Orlando for office space. Despite its historical significance, it was demolished between 2014 and 2015 to make way for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Efforts to preserve elements of its design led to the installation of a segment of the brise soleil at the Orange County Regional History Center in 2018, showcasing the building's lasting impact on the local architectural landscape.
