Freer Gallery of Art (Peacock Room)

The Freer Gallery of Art, part of the Smithsonian Institution, opened in 1923 and specializes in Asian art alongside American art from the Gilded Age. Its collection includes James McNeill Whistler's Peacock Room, which was installed in the museum as a major decorative arts exhibit. The Freer and the adjacent Arthur M. Sackler Gallery together form the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art and support research and exhibitions in Asian visual culture.
