Castro Theatre (1922 movie palace)

The Castro Theatre opened in 1922 and was designed by Timothy L. Pflueger in a flamboyant California Churrigueresque style typical of movie palaces of the era. The theatre retains its original 1920s-era marquee, decorative interior, and a Wurlitzer-style pipe organ that is used for live performances and organ accompaniment. It has long served as a cultural venue for repertory film, festivals, and community events in the Castro district.
