Austin–Bergstrom conversion from Air Force base

Austin–Bergstrom International Airport occupies land that was formerly Bergstrom Air Force Base, which closed in the early 1990s after a federal BRAC decision. The site was redeveloped into a civilian airport that opened in 1999, reusing portions of the base infrastructure and runways during construction. The airport's development is a documented example of military-to-civilian infrastructure reuse in Austin.
