Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Fenway)

Built between 1903 and 1907 and designed to evoke a 15th-century Venetian palazzo, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum features a central indoor courtyard garden modeled after Venetian palaces. Isabella Stewart Gardner arranged the building and its collections according to her personal vision, which the museum preserves to this day. On March 18, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen from the museum in one of the largest unsolved art thefts in U.S. history; the pieces have not been recovered.
