Pittsburgh Mercantile Company Building

The Pittsburgh Mercantile Company Building, located in the South Side Flats neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a historic structure built between 1907 and 1908 that originally served as a company store for the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company. This six-story building features buff-colored Roman brick and terra cotta detailing, and has undergone several renovations, including its conversion into apartments in 2012. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. The building played a significant role in the company store system, which provided essential goods to workers, particularly immigrants, while also facing criticism for potential exploitation. Today, it stands as a testament to Pittsburgh's industrial history and architectural heritage.
